THE EIGTH ANNUAL LOOK MATTERS GOPHER ATTACK
MARATHON AND HALF-MARATHON
What is Gopher Attack? It is the Western Canada International Marathon. It is the first event in the Saskatchewan Timex Road Race Series. It is the first in the series of three Saskatchewan marathons that are the key races for all dedicated marathoners.
As the Marathon Matters committee prepared for the 2013 Gopher held on 29 March, the cold, snowy winter motivated us to prepare for the worst and expect the best. As it turned out, the (for Saskatchewan) unusually cold, blustery morning nevertheless provided good running surface and everything proceeded smoothly with the help of a wonderful team of volunteers. However, the early spring date did force a slower average pace and no course records were broken. Yet there was no shortage of Boston qualified finishers.
We are confident that our accumulated experience from the last seven years will assure the best ever Gopher Attack on 18 April 2013. The Gopher will remain the event that provides the participants with perks of a major marathon at a cost well below the usual.
Watch this site or www.marathonmatter.ca for announcement of the Gopher 2014 registration.
